Once upon a time towards the end of the 1970s young lads from the north east of England change the face fashion. A phenomena called casual began with the scousers leading the way. Some claim as early as 1976 but no exact date is set in stone, there are even claims that it was mancs who started the casual trend or even the cockneys but we’re pretty sure it was the scallies of Merseyside. One of the major factors in being a ‘casual’ was sportswear, from adidas trainers to track tops by Italian sportswear brands Fila and Sergio Tacchini.

This trend got hold of young lads up and down the country each trying to get one up on one another by having a more exclusive Fila Track Top or Sergio Tacchini Polo Shirt. This gear was readily as it was very expensive and wasn’t really available in the shops in England. This led to swarms of young brits heading off across Europe to raid the sports shops and filling their head bags full of adidas trainers, Fila and Sergio Tacchini sportswear and basically anything else that took their fancy.

It did eventually become more main stream with uk sports shops having Fila and Sergio Tacchini tennis departments. Which took the shine off it for a lot as it was too easy to get hold of and the proper casuals would move onto to the next casual look.

All this was over 30 years ago and many different casual looks have come and gone but Fila and Sergio Tacchini have always held very fond memories for many casual and now in 2009 many lads old and young are wearing Fila Vintage Track Tops, Sergio Tacchini Polo Shirts, Fila Shorts, Tacchini Jackets its all back in a big way but unlike the first time round you can now order it all online rather than trek across Europe, too easy for some of the older lads but a new craze for the young ‘uns who have heard many a tale of the early casual days. Too some its a passion to others just another fashion.
